First Trimester Ultrasound

When: 8-12 weeks of pregnancy
How: Ultrasound
Why: This test identifies the number of children you are pregnant with, their growth, and how many weeks pregnant you are. It is important to have this ultrasound if you wish to have additional testing throughout your pregnancy.

Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT)

When: From 10 weeks of pregnancy
How: A blood test
Why: NIPT tests your developing child for Down syndrome and other conditions relating to chromosomal abnormalities. No information is given about your baby's physical growth.

Second Trimester Ultrasound

When: 18-20 weeks of pregnancy

Sometimes, this test also identifies if your baby has a genetic, health or developmental condition. The placental location is also identified and the length of your cervix is measured.
